Why Can’t I Just Blog For A Living?

by Dan Waggoner, under Blogging

Nobody says you can’t just blog for living. There are bloggers who make a fortune with their blogs. The thing to remember is those who are making the fortune have been established for quite some time and they really understand their customers as well as the ways of the Internet. Most of them have been established for 4 to 5 years minimum.

It’s just not as simple as getting a domain name, a blogging platform and writing a post everyday. You have to monetize your blog. You have to treat it like a business. You must work hard and stay focused. You need to be constantly working on ways to get new visitors. After some time your business will begin to show profit and steadily increase but don’t expect to get rich overnight. As with any other business it’s going to take a little love and a lot of dedication to make it successful.

Obviously, earning a living could mean different things to different people. Some folks may only need to make $1,500.00 a month where others may need to make $20,000.00 a month. It’s all relevant.

If your blog is relatively new you can expect things to be quite slow for the first year or maybe even a little more. I’m not saying a new blogger couldn’t possibly get a huge long term spike in traffic from a guest blog post or something of that nature because it’s entirely possible. This can certainly happen if you put a new spin on an old favorite subject and a well known high traffic blogger picks it up and decides to publish the article on his blog.

Whether it be your hard work, your creativity, your unwillingness to quit or a combination of all three, sooner or later your traffic will rise steadily. You could also pay for some of your traffic. Spend some money and get a few press releases and watch your traffic spike tremendously.

With a steady high flow of traffic you can do pretty well just by displaying Google AdSense ads and maybe some in content text ads like Kontera.

Just try to always keep the future in mind and know that the real money will be in marketing products whether it be your own product or somebody else’s. This is why it’s so important to have your own opt in form and email provider set up. Your list will ultimately be where your money is made.

If you plan on using your blog for a business you simply have to treat it as such. Sooner or later it could become your living!

Best Wishes

The Imaginary Online “Auto-Pilot” Business

by Dan Waggoner, under Business, Internet Marketing

by: Dan Waggoner

How many ads have you read on the Internet promising you will soon be a millionaire and all you have to do is sign up for your new online auto-pilot business today? It’s only going to cost you $297.00 up front and $67.00 a month from then on. Start profiting immediately!

If you’re not already aware, let me be the first to tell you that there are no online businesses that run on auto-pilot. They simply do not exist. This is the problem with the world today. Everybody wants to make a million dollars without doing any of the work. The scammers out there know this and generally like to take full advantage of it.

Don’t get me wrong. There are some programs out there that people have designed to take some of the work out of the equation.  Most of them are generic sites that allow you to sell a product and to be able to accept payment. They will host the site for you and the product for sale will usually be earning someone else a ton more money than what you will earn.

Some of them may even be fantastic sites with a great product, however, they still won’t run on auto-pilot. You will have to advertise and drive traffic to the site.  In some cases you will also have to do the back end accounting and inventory as well. When discussing the world of online business, the term “auto-pilot” is only a figment of your imagination! Running a business whether online or offline requires hard work and dedication to make it successful.

There are people who write ad copy so well that it will make the program seem like the best and only choice for you. You won’t have to do anything other than sign up and watch the money start rolling in! They will guarantee that you will make millions hoping that you get so excited and pay before reading the earnings disclosure in fine light gray print at the bottom of the ad.

The point that I’m trying to get across here is if you see an advertisement for an auto-pilot business be weary from the start. I’m not saying they’re all bad. I am saying a good portion of them are junk. Do your research very well. Find out how long the company has been in business. Before you sign up and offer them any of your hard earned money make sure to ask for references and then follow up with those references. Read as many online reviews about the program as you can possibly find. Check them out with the BBB and so on.

Finally, if you’re tech-savvy enough to find this blog you can become tech-savvy enough to build your own online business. It will require hard work and many hours of your time. It may even take 6 months to a year before you see real profit. The difference is that it will be yours, you will have built it and it’s something you can be proud of. It definitely won’t run on auto-pilot but then again no business will.

Best Wishes

Thanks To All Of You & a Site Update

by Dan Waggoner, under Everything Else

by: Dan Waggoner

Today I want to take some time out to give my warmest thank you to all of you who have stuck around and continue visiting the site. I genuinely get an overwhelming sense of joy and accomplishment just knowing that there are really folks out there who come here to visit, read and learn. It is also my intention to give you some updates on the progress of Modern Day Peasants. I figure since you are showing your dedication to the site I should let you know how we’re doing and what’s coming up on the horizon. The site currently gets about 300 visits a day. Roughly 45 to 50 of those are new visitors who have never been here before. This is a really good thing! It means that some of you are talking and spreading the word and I really appreciate your efforts. The other 250 visits per day are primarily regular visitors. Most of you are from the United States but we also have people stopping in from other places in the world such as Ireland, Poland, Russia, China and The United Kingdom just to name a few. I use a tool called Google Analytics to Monitor the incoming website traffic. It lets me know things like how many visitors per day, where they are from and how long they stay around and visit. Don’t worry it doesn’t give me any private details about you. I’m not looking for that kind of information anyway but I do need to be able to track the progress of the site and that’s why I use it.

Another great sign from the increased traffic means that you guys are finding the site useful. This is the most gratifying part about it. I mean, I started this thing like a bumbling idiot just barely knowing what I was doing with the intentions of teaching a few how to make some extra dollars per month but it has grown into so much more. I feel like I really have an avenue or an outlet, if you will, to help a lot of people and that’s a great feeling.

So all I can say at this point is thanks again and hang around for the ride. I can’t mention too much right now because it will ruin the effects but just last week we partnered with many different people and companies to create lots more exciting opportunities. I will be posting those opportunities in the coming weeks and months starting tomorrow. You can also follow Modern Day Peasants on Twitter if you care to. Sometimes I post different thoughts, trials and new helpful products there as well. Many people tell me I should put my picture on the front page of this blog but I have opted not to do that. If you want to see my ugly mug you can see it in the “about” section above. Please don’t be afraid to leave your comments either. If you have ideas then by all means put them out there so others can gain from them. It’s ok even if you just want to say hello. All bloggers love comments from their visitors and friends.

Best Wishes to All!
